The first 節気 “sekki” division of the traditional Japanese calendar is:
立春
(りっしゅん)
“risshun”
the beginning of spring
The first of the three “kō” microseasons within this division is:
東風解凍
(はるかぜこうりおとく)
“harukaze kōri o toku”
East wind melts the ice
That makes 東風解凍 the first microseason of the year!
It typically lasts 4~8 February.
This is #1 in a regular subseries of 365 Days of Japanese, where every five or six days I post about the one of the 72 Japanese microseasons that has begun around the same date as the entry.
