The previous entry was one of the microseason series and I used a picture from a friend’s Facebook post of a few days ago:
The haiku Philip is quoting is the following:
高麗舟のよらで過ぎゆく霞かな
(こまぶね の よらで すひゆく かすみ かな)
“komabune no yorade sugiyuku kasumi kana”
The ship from Koma doesn’t stop and passes…… the mist!
(Note: 17 syllables!)
蕪村
(ぶそん)
“buson”
[Yosa] Buson, a famous Japanese painter and poet of the Edo period
Here is some analysis of the haiku. That blog entry is where I got my information about the poem and the base translation. It is an interesting article and I recommend a read!
Philip followed up the Facebook post with an amusing comment:
Hahaha!
